Haute couture, creme de la creme of fashion, art of tailoring and finest example of clothing.

 

This is part of fashion industry, that makes custom fitted garment,

individually for client. Made of luxury, greatest, expensive and often

unusuall fabrics, by finest tailors, that have high level of skills.

First recognizable name in history of haute couture and also french

fashion is Rose Bertin. But today Charles Frederick Worth is considered

as father of haute couture. He is most famous, of his new attitude

to making haute couture clothes. He make his clients able to choose

colours and materials for apparel, before this garment was made.

But thing, that he is most recognizable and famous is making as first

of all „couturiers” a fashion shows. It was very new thing in fashion

industry. He shows his creations on live models, and after show ended,

his clients could choose an apparel, colours and fabrics from whom

this clothes should be made.

 

Haute couture phrase has different translations. „Haute” means „high”

and „couture” means „dressmaking”, „sewing” „needlework”, but it

also can be translated as „high fashion”. It is protected by law in France

and not every fashion house can describe itself as haute couture house.

Only „Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode” (FHCM), can give

this title to fashion house, after it will meet requirements of FHCM and

after it will be choosen by this organisation. The list of „haute couture”

houses are updated every year(you can find it on „Brands” page).

Today „haute couture” term is also used by some people to describe:

-custom fitted clothes made by finest fashion houses not only in Paris,

      but also in othes fashion capitals like Milan, London, Tokyo, etc.;

-fashion houses or fashion designers, which creates exclusive and trend

      setting fashion

-fashion made by those fashion houses or fashion designers mentioned above.

 

In our times, haute couture is not only individually tailored apparel for clients,

but mostly it is apparel made for fashion shows and usually it is not for sale.

But despite this, it is still best fashion in the whole world.
